The UNESCO Office in Iraq, in cooperation with Mayoralty of Baghdad, launched on Tuesday the activities of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week from the Sheikh Ahmed Al-Waeli Museum and Center.
A statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "the UNESCO Office in Iraq launched the activities of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week in cooperation with Mayoralty of Baghdad, at the Museum and Center of the late Sheikh Ahmed Al-Waeli, where the events witnessed the opening of a specialized workshop on elections and media in light of digital transformations," noting that "this activity comes within the framework of the co-financing program for freedom of expression and the safety of journalists implemented by UNESCO globally."
"Representatives of the Electoral Commission and the Human Rights Commission participated in the workshop, as well as a group of press and media experts and some bloggers," the statement added.
The statement pointed out that "the participants discussed mechanisms that ensure the safety of journalists during traditional media coverage and through the digital space, including the role of actors, influencers and users in digital platforms, and the workshop witnessed the exchange of ideas inspired by previous electoral experiences in Iraq, in addition to the accumulated experiences of journalists and representatives of the Electoral Commission."
