al-Shammari meets with Director of UNESCO in Iraq

    The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, urged on Wednesday, UNESCO to proceed with its projects to protect journalists,

    The Ministry of Interior said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Minister of Interior, Abdul al-Amir al-Shammari, met today, at the ministry's headquarters, Director and Representative at UNESCO in Iraq, Paolo Fontani, and the official in charge of the freedom of expression sector, Dia Sobhi," noting that "the minister welcomed The meeting began with his guest and his accompanying delegation."
     

    The statement added that "a number of projects of common interest, which are being implemented by UNESCO Iraq in partnership with the Ministry of Interior and the judiciary, were discussed, foremost of which is the regulation of the Internet and information sector to ensure safe use, combat digital crimes, improve freedom of expression and digital and information literacy," noting that "the two sides They agreed to hold an expanded meeting with the Directorate of Training and the Directorate of Communications and Information Systems, as well as direct coordination with the Department of Relations and Media to implement a number of activities and programs in this regard."

    Al-Shammari urged UNESCO "to proceed with its projects to protect journalists and their safety and promote freedom of expression to improve mutual understanding between security men and journalists."

    For his part, Director and Representative at UNESCO affirmed that UNESCO will continue to support the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to enhance its projects and programmes.
