Hamoudi to Alicia Rico: "Netanyahu is the only one who wants war"

The head of the Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, praised Spain's position rejecting the Zionist aggression on Gaza and Lebanon today, Thursday.

A statement issued by Sheikh Hamoudi's office received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted him as saying during his meeting with the Spanish Ambassador to Iraq, Alicia Rico: "We appreciate the position of Spain, government, parliament and people, towards the Zionist aggression on Gaza and Lebanon. It is an advanced position, and this opens up broad opportunities for cooperation in Iraq. We look forward to signing a memorandum of understanding between the two countries to enhance bilateral cooperation and partnership.".

He added, "Human rights are Europe's message, but its silence on the horrific violations, its support for the Zionist entity and the duplicity of its positions makes it lose respect, and some of its countries following America makes it lose privacy.".

He continued, "Benjamin Netanyahu is the only one who wants war, and we are stunned that the world cannot stop him and supplies him with weapons. Europe must stop supporting him with weapons. War will not be able to end the will of a people, and our region, whenever it faces escalation, its strength increases. The war must be stopped.".

For her part, the ambassador stressed that "Spain is for peace, seeks to hold a conference on Palestine, and believes that the Zionist entity will not enjoy security unless it recognizes the rights of Palestine, and we call for an immediate cessation of aggression against Gaza and Lebanon," according to the text of the statement.
