Foreign Minister and new UNAMI head discuss ending mission

    Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein discussed with the new head of UNAMI in Iraq and the UN Special Representative, Mohammed Al-Hassan, cooperation regarding the procedures for gradually ending the work of UNAMI.


    Hussein received the new head of UNAMI in Iraq and the UN Special Representative, Mohammed Al-Hassan, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.


    At the beginning of the meeting, the Foreign Minister welcomed Al-Hassan, expressing "Iraq's readiness to provide all forms of support to facilitate his work tasks."


    The meeting discussed the nature of the relationship between Iraq and the international organization and expressed thanks for the efforts made by UNAMI in supporting Iraq over the past years. 


    The Minister also stressed the importance of preserving the historical relationship between Iraq and the United Nations and its agencies operating in the country.


    They highlighted the ways to enhance cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi authorities regarding the procedures for gradually ending the work of UNAMI, affirming "Iraq's readiness to provide the necessary facilities in this regard."


    Al-Hassan expressed his thanks "for the warm reception," indicating his "determination to make every effort to facilitate the safe and gradual transition of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq."
