Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency-INA that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated today, via video conference, three schools in Baghdad and Maysan, as part of the opening of 25 schools under the "Farah Model Schools for Orphans" project across Iraq.
The statement read "The Prime Minister praised the opening of the Farah Model Schools for orphans, describing it as a significant step reflecting the government’s commitment to education and upbringing. He commended the efforts made to complete the project and reiterated the government’s focus on supporting vulnerable groups who have faced difficult circumstances, stressing the moral, religious, and national duty to care for the children of martyrs."
It further said "Prime Minister Al-Sudani confirmed that efforts continue to complete the 1,000 schools under the Iraq-China school construction project. He noted that 20-25 schools are being established in the first phase under the name "Farah Model Schools," which will provide comprehensive care for orphans across all Iraqi provinces. Four schools in Baghdad and Maysan have already started classes, with the remaining schools requiring only minor steps before operations begin."
"The Prime Minister further explained that all students in Farah Schools will receive financial aid and directed the school administrations to coordinate with the Social Protection Department to ensure this support is provided. He emphasized the presence of social and psychological counselors, given the harsh conditions these students have endured. The Prime Minister highlighted the cooperation with UNICEF on psychological support programs for students and the support of religious and social institutions for orphan-focused initiatives. He emphasized the government's encouragement of such efforts, as they promote the concept of social solidarity," the statement also said.
It added "Prime Minister Al-Sudani had earlier directed the establishment of Farah Model Schools to support orphaned children under the supervision of the Governmental Communication Team in the Prime Minister's Office. These schools will be selected from existing educational directorates or new buildings and will provide special care, psychological support, school uniforms, transportation, meals, and allowances in line with grants provided to students in public schools."
