Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shimmari confirmed on Monday that great efforts were made to secure the Iraqi borders, noting that the matter had a positive impact on the drug control file.
Al-Shimmari, accompanied by the head and members of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, visited the General Directorate of Drug Control and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, and the Director General of Drug Control provided "a detailed explanation of the most important duties and achievements made to combat this scourge," said the Ministry of Interior in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
The Minister praised "the support provided by the wise authority, as well as the continuous support from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for the work of the Ministry of Interior in combating drugs, praising at the same time the work of the Directorate in arresting those wanted in drug cases."
"Great efforts were made to secure the Iraqi borders, which had a positive impact on this important file," praised Al-Shimmari, appreciating "the high coordination and fruitful cooperation with neighboring countries that had joint work through the exchange of information and the extradition of wanted persons."
Al-Shimmari expressed his thanks and appreciation for the work of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate and all those who support the work of the Ministry of Interior in maintaining security and arresting drug dealers and promoters, noting that the Anti-Narcotics Directorate has a major and prominent role in the Middle East region in terms of work in combating drugs.
The statement included that the head of the parliamentary security and defense committee, Karim Aliwi Al-Muhammadawi, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Interior, indicating that "there is follow-up and procedures achieved by this directorate whose work is supervised by the minister," stressing that "the construction of forced clinics contributed to saving many victims," appreciating "the distinguished work of all officers and members of the anti-drug department," describing them as "patriots, especially since they are making great efforts to save society from this scourge that is no less dangerous than terrorism due to the great danger it poses to the family and society."
At the end of this visit, the members of the Parliament expressed their "thanks and appreciation to the minister and the anti-drug and psychotropic substances directorate for their role in enforcing the law and combating these toxins."
