The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) announced on Sunday the issuance of death sentences against a Daesh member and the individuals responsible for the murder of Al-Sharqiya TV crew members in the provinces of Salah al-Din and Dhi Qar.
In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Judiciary declared, “The Criminal Court of Salah al-Din has sentenced to death a terrorist affiliated with Daesh.”
The statement elaborated, noting that “the terrorist actively participated in combat operations against Iraqi security forces and incited civilians to join the terrorist organization.”
The sentence was issued pursuant to Articles 2/1, 3, 5, and 7, in conjunction with Article 4/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005.
Furthermore, the Judiciary revealed that “Dhi Qar Criminal Court handed down death sentences to two terrorists for the murder of a journalist and cameraman working for Al-Sharqiya TV in 2013.”
The statement clarified that “the crime occurred in Mosul while the crew was preparing a report for the channel, driven by terrorist motives.”
The judgements were delivered under Articles 2/1, 3, and 4, in reference to Article 4 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005.
