UNDP supports Iraq with €5 million to enhance integrity and financial control

    The United Nations Development Program  (UNDP) announced today, Thursday, the provision of support worth 5 million euros to enhance integrity and financial control in Iraq while confirming its discussions with the European Union regarding the provision of a new amount worth 4.5 million euros.

    The Director of the Anti-Corruption and Control Enhancement Program at the United Nations Development Program ( UNDP ), Yama Turabi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The United Nations Development Program worked with the European Union to support integrity and financial control in Iraq,” stressing that “the program provided support worth 5 million euros.”

    He pointed out that "discussions are underway with the European Union to provide support worth 4.5 million euros to continue support and enhance transparency and integrity in Iraq," noting "the importance of focusing on other essential issues, including climate justice and green integrity, to enhance transparency and provide equal opportunities." 

    He explained that "the primary mandate of the United Nations Development Project is to work with the bodies responsible for combating corruption, including the Board of Supreme Audit and the Integrity Commission," indicating that "the primary work of the United Nations Development Project is to provide technical assistance and capacity building through training courses for investigators in the Integrity Commission, employees in the Board of Supreme Audit and the bodies responsible for combating corruption, in addition to providing legal advice and assistance to prepare legal projects that adapt to the new changes and challenges that arise in Iraq and the world." 

    He added, "The world is facing continuous challenges, so it is vital to adapt and amend laws according to the changes, in addition to providing digital solutions to the Integrity Commission and other entities that are useful in investigating corruption cases, including establishing digital laboratories to extract information from digital devices, computers or phones that are evidence seized when investigating corruption cases."
