French Ambassador to Baghdad Patrick Durrell received on Monday the delegations of the Olympic and Paralympic Committee participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The meeting came within the framework of strengthening sports relations between the two friendly countries and supporting the athletes participating in the tournament by celebrating them and their active participation, according to a statement by the Olympic Committee - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Durrell praised the achievement made by the athletes participating in the Paris Paralympics by winning five colored medals despite the strong competition in the Paralympics saying, "The Iraqi participation was very distinctive in Paris 2024."
The ambassador expressed his 'great happiness with the distinguished level and important position achieved by the promising weightlifter Ali Ammar Yasser', and his competition with an elite group of the most prominent and strongest athletes in the world in weightlifting. He also praised the achievement of the champion Najla Imad, in the Paris Paralympics, by awarding her with the gold medal in table tennis."
He explained that "Iraqi sports are going in the right direction, and that the Iraqi champion, whose fame has reached the entire world, deserved all forms of honor she received because she drew the path to glory and gold with a single hand, defeating all her competitors in the Paralympics."
