The head of the Supreme Hajj and Umrah Commission, Sami Al-Masoudi, revealed on Wednesday, a directive from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to open the Jamima crossing in Muthanna Governorate to facilitate the journeys of pilgrims and Umrah performers from the southern governorates and enhance commercial movement.
Al-Masoudi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani paid attention to the Hajj file and was in continuous contact regarding the electronic lottery that was conducted under his supervision."
He added, "Instructions were given to open the Jamima crossing in Muthanna Governorate in order to facilitate the southern governorates' access to the holy places," noting that "the crossing is important and vital commercially and economically and a passage for pilgrims and Umrah performers, like the Arar crossing."
He explained that "the government's support continues to the Hajj and Umrah Authority, as it has completed the legal procedures with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding it, in addition to completing the infrastructure."
