During a reception at the Peace Palace in Baghdad on Thursday, President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid honored athletes who placed first, second, and third in the recently concluded Paralympic Games in Paris, France.
The President of the Republic "praised the great achievements made by the champion athletes in the Paralympic Games, and raised the name of Iraq high in international sports forums, to become the pride of all Iraqis," according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic's Media Department that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained. The statement also noted that "our heroes presented the most wonderful images of courage and challenge in various circumstances."
" Najla Imad, along with other heroes who achieved outstanding results, dealt a great blow to terrorism when she defied her circumstances to win the gold medal to reflect the courage and determination of Iraqi women," the STATEMENT said.
"The president emphasized the significance of continuing to support and develop Iraqi sports and athletes at all levels, and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Olympic Committee, the Paralympic Committee, training cadres, and everyone else who contributed to achieving these great results," the statement read.
