Minister of Education affirms international cooperation with Iraq to enhance capabilities in peaceful uses of nuclear energy

    The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naeem Al-Aboudi, confirmed on Tuesday,  the continuation of international cooperation with Iraq to enhance its national capabilities in peaceful nuclear applications.
     
    A statement from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research-MOHESR, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "the Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naeem Al-Aboudi, represented the Republic of Iraq at the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in the Austrian capital, Vienna."
     
    In his speech at the conference, the Minister emphasized the pursuit of safe and peaceful uses of nuclear technology, the enhancement of its developmental, economic, and health programs, and support for future plans to obtain energy from diverse sources.
     
    He clarified that "Iraq and its relevant executive institutions are diligently working to achieve sustainable development goals and reinforce this endeavor by joining several agreements, including the Nuclear Safety Convention and the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management."
    He also mentioned the enactment of several relevant laws, including the Law of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and the Law of the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Regulation in 2024.
     
    Al-Aboudi further noted that "the Iraqi government continues its positive cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency in building and developing national capacities in peaceful nuclear applications through technical cooperation programs and training and development opportunities."

     He highlighted that "these programs are crucial in promoting the safe and peaceful uses of nuclear technology."
