Transparency International praised Iraq's efforts in combating corruption over the past two years, noting that fighting corruption is not easy.
The organization's vice president, Ketakandriana Rafitoson said during her speech at the Arab Forum for Promoting Transparency and Good Governance, which was attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "We aim to establish the principle of transparency and strategy to protect public funds and improve integrity and construction in combating corruption," indicating that "the future awaits us with greater opportunities in combating corruption."
She added, "Corruption in countries is a warning to us to work on human rights," noting that "the separation of powers is very important for the system to be strong."
Rafitoson continued, "The discourse is present in fighting corruption," stressing "the need for dialogue and discussion regarding conflicts."
She stated that "there are several countries that have received humanitarian aid, which requires better monitoring mechanisms," explaining that "the picture is not dark, but there is hope."
She praised "Iraqi efforts in combating corruption during the past two years," noting that "during the three days we will discuss several issues and encourage breaking the silence."
Rafitoson pointed out that,”Thanks to the “Government of Iraq, the Integrity Commission, the European Union and the United Nations for holding this forum, which we hope will continue to be held annually to achieve anti-corruption and transparency.”
