The Directorate General of Intelligence and Security-DGIS, under the Ministry of Defence, announced on Tuesday, the successful arrest of six drug traffickers in a series of operations conducted across various districts of Baghdad.
According to a statement released by DGIS and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the arrests were carried out under the direct supervision of Defence Minister Thabet Al-Abbasi. The operations, described as precision-targeted and intelligence-driven, resulted in the capture of the suspects in flagrante delicto. The authorities also confiscated a variety of illegal substances and drug paraphernalia during the raids.
The Directorate further confirmed that judicial warrants had been issued for the suspects under Article 28 of the Narcotics Law. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the individuals have been referred to the appropriate judicial authorities.
