Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani confirmed today, Sunday, that ISIS terrorist remnants no longer pose a threat to the Iraqi state.
The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met today with Major General Kevin C. Leahy, Commander of the Global Coalition against Daesh in Iraq, with the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq also in attendance.
The meeting focused on the progress of the technical dialogue between both sides about ending the Coalition's mission in Iraq and transitioning to a framework of bilateral relations between Iraq and Coalition member states. The discussions also covered ongoing cooperation in training, sharing expertise, and intelligence collaboration with Iraqi security forces.
The Prime Minister stated that the remnants of ISIS no longer pose a threat to the Iraqi state, as they have become isolated groups hiding in remote areas to avoid capture. He noted that the Iraqi armed forces are continuing their military operations to track down any remaining terrorists and their hideouts.
