Pep Guardiola lauded Erling Haaland's phenomenal goal-scoring consistency, likening him to football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Haaland's 'ridiculous' scoring record saw him net a hat-trick in City's 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town, marking his 10th hat-trick for the Premier League club. "The numbers are ridiculous," Guardiola commented, emphasizing Haaland's potential to compete with Ronaldo and Messi. The 24-year-old has already scored four goals in just two games this season, aiming for his third Golden Boot campaign.
Haaland's overall record is a staggering 94 goals in 101 appearances for Manchester City. Guardiola credits Haaland's summer rest for his strong start, as Norway's failure to qualify for Euro 2024 allowed him a well-needed break. "This season, no Euros, relax and arrive well," Guardiola said. Last season's foot injury hampered Haaland, but a niggle-free pre-season has left him feeling better than ever.
Haaland himself shared his improved condition: "I don't have any pain in my body for the first time in a long time. I had a long pre-season and enjoyed it." Though neither Kyle Walker nor Phil Foden played in the recent win, due to their late return from the Euro final, Guardiola remains optimistic about the squad's overall fitness. Midfielder Rodri is also recovering from an injury sustained during the Euro final.
