The Ministry of Health confirmed, today, Friday, that no case of smallpox infection has been recorded, and while it confirmed the deployment of teams at ports and airports to deal with any suspected case, it indicated its ability to diagnose the disease and contain any epidemic case.
Director of the Public Health Department, Riyadh Abdul Amir, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We have not recorded any cases of this disease so far, and we have circulated precautionary measures to all governorates, health departments and health cadres, and the necessary preparations have been made to deal with any suspected case."
He added, "There are teams deployed at border crossings and airports to investigate the disease in the event that symptoms appear that suggest that any traveler has the disease, and in the event that any suspected case is detected, health cadres will isolate it, take tests from it and confirm it, and in fact, no case has been recorded so far.".
In turn, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Saif Al-Badr, indicated in his statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the ministry has not recorded any cases of the disease, and we confirm its ability to diagnose and contain any epidemic case, and there is a specialized center to follow up on these developments affiliated with the Public Health Department.".
He added, "The Ministry of Health is following up with the World Health Organization and all concerned parties inside and outside Iraq on all developments, and the institutions of the Ministry of Health are capable of diagnosing and dealing with such cases."
