The president of The Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidan, stated on Saturday, that combating violence against women is an integral part of our pursuit of achieving social justice. He noted that such behavior contradicts the principles of religion, ethics, and law.

A statement from the judiciary, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), reported that "The president of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidan, participated in the activities of the 16th annual Conference on Combating Violence against Women, held on Saturday, in the capital, Baghdad. The event was organized by the Al-Hakim Foundation under the patronage of Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakim, with the attendance of President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi."

The statement added that " Zidan emphasized in his speech the significance of the issue of violence against women, as it touches upon human dignity and fundamental rights and poses a substantial challenge to justice and equality in our societies."

He continued, "As judges, we believe that justice is the fundamental pillar upon which healthy societies are built. From this perspective, combating violence against women is an inseparable part of our efforts to achieve social justice."

He noted that "violence against women is unacceptable behavior that conflicts with the principles of religion, morality, and law. It is not merely a moral crime but also a significant barrier to the progress of society as a whole, considering that women are the cornerstone of the family and society. Development and prosperity cannot be achieved unless we ensure a safe and respectful environment for them."

He called on everyone "to work together to combat all forms of violence against women by promoting a culture that emphasizes the importance of respecting women and their rights, and by supporting policies and legislation that guarantee their protection."

Zidan reaffirmed "the judiciary's full commitment to standing firmly against all forms of violence and to achieving justice that ensures the right of every individual in society to live with dignity and security, without discrimination between men and women."
