The most dangerous organized crime gangs were apprehended and hostages were freed, according to a statement released by the Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) on Friday.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) followed a video clip featuring INSS spokesman Arshad al-Hakim saying, "INSS detachments were able to free hostages and arrested the most dangerous organized crime gangs."
"A special force from INSS, after obtaining judicial approvals, carried out the arrest of wanted persons sentenced to death, in accordance with the directives of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and after receiving accurate intelligence indicating the presence of this gang in an area in eastern Baghdad. After inferring the location, the gang took two citizens from the neighboring house as hostages in an attempt to pressure the force to withdraw, but the force dealt wisely with the situation," he said.
He said, "Five hours later, the gang members were arrested so we could take legal action against them and the hostages were freed."
