A move to facilitate the provision of internet service from ports to the holy cities was announced by the Ministry of Communications on Thursday, working with Iran.
"The undersecretary of the Iranian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammad Jafarpour, and the accompanying delegation were received by the director general of the General Company for Communications and Informatics, Ali Yassin Daoud, based on the directives of the Minister of Communications, Hiam Al-Yasiri, which include the need to harness all the capabilities of the ministry and its affiliated formations in order to provide the best services to pilgrims to the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, due to its significance on the political and popular levels, in which millions of people participate from inside and outside of Iraq.
According to the statement, "the two sides met to discuss ways to provide infrastructure related to this subject, starting from border crossings to inside the holy cities, and the main pilgrims routes, as well as ways to provide communications and Internet services to pilgrims to the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him."
In addition to stating that the General Company for Communications and Informatics would "harness all its capabilities to provide the best services to visitors of various nationalities," the Director General expressed his "full readiness to cooperate in this aspect."
Numerous advanced cadres from the General Company for Communications and Informatics as well as representatives from mobile phone companies attended the meeting.
