Ali Al-Moayyed, the chairman of the Media and Communications Commission, disclosed on Thuresday the steps taken to promote digital culture while announcing the signing of agreements to close the cybersecurity gap.
"The participation of the Commission comes within the framework of its openness to the international private sector, especially leading American companies in this field, which enhances cooperation between the two sides and benefits all parties," stated Al-Moayyed in a speech given during the ceremony hosted by the American company "Fortinet" and attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). He also mentioned that "the current government headed by Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani pays exceptional attention to the issue of digital transformationand cybersecurity, and puts the protection of data resulting from this comprehensive transformation.
He added that "the Media and Communications Commission recognizes that the digital age in which electronic information and data has become the backbone of all economic, social and security operations and activities, and therefore protecting and securing this data from cyber threats is critical to ensure business continuity and maintain trust between institutions and citizens."
He pointed out that "the Commission is working at an escalating pace to spread digital culture among all segments of Iraqi society, by organizing training courses and workshops to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity and teach the mechanisms of optimal use of technology, with the aim of building a conscious digital society that can face cyber challenges efficiently and competently," noting that "the authority is in the process of signing a strategic agreement with a number of world-class companies aimed at bridging the digital divide in the field of cybersecurity and training students and government employees to develop their technical skills." in this field, and even give them accredited certificates"
"Cooperation with Fortinet and other advanced international companies confirms the Authority's keenness to benefit from modern expertise and technologies, and is part of the plans adopted by the Authority in building strategic partnerships that contribute to the transfer of knowledge and the development of local capabilities in the field of cybersecurity," he said, stressing "to work to enhance cooperation between the public and private sectors, and develop national competencies in this vital field, which is one of the priorities of digital transformation in the country."
"Investing in cybersecurity is an investment in a Iraq future and ensuring its stability and prosperity," he said.
