China confirmed on Wednesday that the ceasefire in Gaza and providing humanitarian relief are top priorities, while proposing a three-step approach to resolving the Palestinian issue.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, said while attending the closing ceremony of a reconciliation dialogue between the Palestinian factions and witnessing the signing of 14 Palestinian factions of a declaration calling for ending the division and promoting unity: “The Palestinian cause is the heart of Middle East issues, and China It has no self-interest with regard to the Palestinian issue,” indicating that “his country was one of the first countries to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization and the State of Palestine, and that it always supports the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights.”

He pointed to "the continuation of the conflict in Gaza and the spread of its indirect impact," noting that "China proposes a three-step approach in order to get out of the impasse of the current conflict."

The Chinese Foreign Minister explained that "the first step is to consolidate a comprehensive, permanent and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza Strip as soon as possible, and to ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid and relief supplies.”

"The second step is to support the principle that (the Palestinians rule Palestine) and work together to strengthen governance in Gaza after the war." Wang Yi said.

He continued, saying: “The third step is to support Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations and begin implementing the two-state dissolve,” noting that “there should be support for convening a more important, more binding and effective international peace conference, as well as setting a timetable and road map to achieve this.”

He concluded by saying: "The international community must support the parties concerned in implementing the three-step approach by adopting a serious stance."
