Abdul Amir al-Shammari, the interior minister, stated on Monday that there is a growing threat from drugs and that an international agreement is necessary to combat this global issue.
During the Second Baghdad Regional International Conference on Drug Control, which was attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reporter, Al-Shammari stated that "the scourge of drugs has become a ghost that haunts our youth" and that "the capital Baghdad welcomes brothers and friends and looks forward to getting rid of the danger of drugs."
He declared, "We need an international document to contain the scourge of drugs because the threat of drugs is growing significantly."
Al-Shammari emphasized "the need for coordination and cooperation to stand against the threat of drugs," pointing out that "the threat of drugs will continue without active cooperation."
Noting that "Iraq toppled mosted wanted drug dealers ," he emphasized that "the Ministry of Interior has embarked on many procedures and deliberate plans to chase down drug traffickers."
He mentioned that "many countries have concluded memorandums of understanding to confront the drug phenomenon."
