Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari talked on Friday with his Iranian counterpart Ahmed Vahidi, about the steps needed to ensure the Ashura Pilgrimage.
"Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari continues, for the second day in a row, his field tour at the border ports, which will be a passage for pilgrims going to the shrine of the master of martyrs Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) to commemorate the tenth of the holy month of Muharram," reads a ministry statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"During his tour, Al-Shammari inspected the port of Shalamjah and followed up on the measures taken to secure this pilgrimage, and he also met with his Iranian counterpart Ahmed Vahidi within this port," the statement continued, accompanied by the governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani.
According to the statement, "Al-Shammari and his Iranian counterpart held a meeting during which they discussed the latest preparations for the implementation of the plan for the influx of pilgrims, and also inspected the passport office, various facilities, and the working mechanism."
"The port of Wasiliyah and were briefed on the progress of work to receive pilgrims heading towards the holy city of Karbala," was where the two ministers went.
