The Minister of Immigration and Displacement, Ivan Faiq Jabro, revealed today, Sunday, government procedures for the voluntary return of expatriates, while noting that there is a continuous and periodic return from European Union countries.
Jabro told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that “Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani formed two external and internal committees for the voluntary return of expatriates whose requests were rejected or who were detained abroad,” indicating that “the external committee is headed by Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein, while the committee of Interior is headed by us.”
She added, "The Ministry of Immigration has formed teams that work with all institutions to register families who wish to return by implementing the Charter with the United Nations," stressing by saying: " “The Ministry has reservations about forced return and supports voluntary return.”
The Minister Jabro pointed out, "There is a continuous and periodic return from European Union countries, and we are dealing with our ministry and the relevant authorities, by registering them, giving them a sum of money, and integrating them into their regions, in coordination with the relevant institutions."
She pointed out, "The Ministry faces a major challenge, given that irregular immigrants have lost all their legal rights. Therefore, we, as an Iraqi government, respect the laws of all countries. So, a decision cannot be taken to stop returning them, because this is a matter that is subject to the laws of other countries."
