The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, announced today, Friday, that Iraq has officially exited the list of using children in armed conflicts.

Al-Asadi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that “The latest report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding countries that use children in armed conflicts did not mention the name Iraq, in order to adhere to the joint action plan that we signed with the United Nations country team (UNICEF and UNAMI) to prevent the involvement of children in armed conflicts.
The Minister pointed out, "This step will strengthen Iraq's position in the international community, stressing that "Iraq has committed to everything imposed by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocol of 2008, which it signed."
According to the statement "The Executive Committee of the Monitoring and Reporting Committee, headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Social Affairs, Huda Sajad, and under the direct supervision of the Minister, worked in less than a year on the stages of implementing the plan in cooperation with a Qatari team, a team from UNAMI, and several ministries, which included the stages of prevention, treatment, and cooperation."
