The General Company for Iraqi Railways, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the Development Road Project will develop new highways and railway lines, and there will be a campaign to rehabilitate the highway lines in preparation for the start of implementation, stressing at the same time that there is a tendency to hold a ministerial meeting between the countries that signed the Quartet memorandum during the coming period.
The company's general manager, Younis Al-Kaabi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "The designing company achieved advanced rates with the preliminary designs of the road, as the percentage of railway designs exceeded 76%, the highway designs reached approximately 66%, and soil and topographic surveys exceeded 90%."
He added, "Iraq is about to contract with the consulting company (Oliver Wyman) after the authorization of the Council of Ministers," explaining that "the company will give global reliability to the path of development, work to attract investors and give the financial map for the implementation of this project, in addition to the agreement and the quadripartite memorandum that Iraq signed with brotherly and friendly countries during the recent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Baghdad, which will be a major gateway to the path of development and absolute international support.”
He pointed out that "there are ongoing discussions in Turkey with the World Bank to support the path of development;" adding that "Iraq is taking steady steps within the timings set by the government for this project."
Regarding the quadripartite agreement, Al-Kaabi confirmed that “the memorandum was signed between the countries supporting the path of development, which are Iraq, Turkey, Qatar, and the Emirates, and the coordinating committee for this memorandum was established, and in the coming period the first ministerial conference for the memorandum will be held to set practical steps for the path of development,” pointing out that “the memorandum It stipulated that the doors are open to all countries wishing to join this memorandum, and Iraq is open to all countries in the file of path of development.
Al-Kaabi said in his speech, "Major international companies will contribute to implementing the path of development, whether in railways, highways, communications, the energy sector, investments, and industrial cities."
