Health Minister Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi emphasized, on Tuesday, support for the Palestinian cause, while calling for a unified UN position for an immediate ceasefire and a global campaign for the relief of the Gaza Strip.

Al-Hasnawi said in a speech during the 77th session of the General Assembly of the World Health Organization, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “We support the Palestinian cause and emphasize Iraq's readiness to work with the approach of health for all and all for the health,” calling for “a unified UN position for an immediate ceasefire and a global campaign for the relief of the Gaza Strip.”
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani's directive has seen the initial intake of wounded and ill Palestinian patients for treatment in Iraq, with plans for further assistance, as stated by Al-Hasnawi.
He underscored the government's prioritization of healthcare, evidenced by a fair budget allocation facilitating the provision of medicines, medical supplies, and modern equipment across healthcare institutions. Primary healthcare receives significant attention, alongside early detection of chronic diseases and breast cancer, complemented by necessary treatment services accessible in all Iraqi provinces.

Moreover, Iraq's government has dedicated attention to prevention, rehabilitation, and societal integration programs in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the World Health Organization. Al-Hasnawi highlighted the successful reduction in maternal and child mortality rates by approximately 70% and 50%, respectively, over the past two decades, achieved through joint efforts with the WHO. He also proudly noted Iraq's ninth consecutive year without polio, marking it as the first country to achieve polio eradication transition.
