The head of the Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Moayyed, announced today, Thursday, that the significant investment growth in the field of communications has reached $17 billion, while calling on French technology and communications companies to invest in the Iraqi market.
The Media Authority said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Chairman of the Media and Communications Authority, Ali Al-Muayyad, met at the headquarters of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department, Anne Greu, in the presence of the Iraqi Ambassador to Paris, Mr. Wadih Batti.”
Al-Muayad stressed, “the importance of media pluralism in Iraq and the presence of dozens of media institutions that promote freedom of the Internet and communications,” noting, “This is an important indicator of the development of the media scene in the country.”
He pointed out, “The significant growth in investment in the field of communications after the demise of the previous regime, as it reached nearly 17 billion dollars and contributed to reducing the digital gap and providing Internet services to about 95% of the Iraqi people,” stressing, “The importance of freedom of communications and the Internet in strengthening the unique democracy.” Which Iraq enjoys in the Middle East, where millions of Iraqis enjoy the freedom to express their opinions through social media platforms.”
He called on Western media institutions to "support the Iraqi democratic experience through their effective presence in the country," warning that "its absence may give negative messages."
He urged, "to develop the fields of journalistic training to include private institutions operating in Iraq, and to encourage French technology and communications companies to invest in the promising Iraqi market."
For her part, Anne Greux confirmed "French President Emmanuel Macron's interest in relations with Iraq," noting that "the presence of the French embassy in Baghdad reflects the depth of relations between the two countries."
She expressed, "the French Foreign Minister's desire to visit Iraq," stressing "the importance of these meetings in strengthening bilateral relations."
