The Prime Ministry's Advisory Board reaffirmed on Wednesday that it was in favor of the comprehensive quality education project in Iraq. It also stated that 16 goals would be met if the project is successful, and it put forth a proposal to establish a joint committee with representatives from the international and Iraqi communities to oversee its implementation.
At the project launch ceremony for "Equitable Quality Education in Iraq, Improving Teaching and Learning and Strengthening Educational Management" (ITALEEM), which was attended by the Iraqi News Agency's correspondent, member of the Board of Advisors Tariq Al-Ani spoke on behalf of Chief Advisor Abdul Karim Al-Faisal. "The strengthening of the educational administration, known by the abbreviation of education, was achieved thanks to the serious and constructive cooperation of UNESCO and UNICEF with the main partners on the Iraqi side, represented by the Ministry of Education in the center and the region, the Board of Advisors and civil society organizations," praising "the great efforts of the participating parties that resulted in the emergence of this project.”
"The source of funding for the project and the European Union, which contributed to financing a series of successful educational and educational projects over the past two decades," received praise and gratitude from Al-Ani.
The fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, he explained, is "inclusive and equitable quality education, which is the main pillar and window through which the other 16 goals can be achieved."
He emphasized that "the Board of Advisors will harness all its energies and capabilities to support this project to achieve its goals," pointing out that "Iraq's vision for the Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve quality and fair education and provides high-quality educational opportunities for all segments of Iraqi society."
He stated, "The Board looks forward to the establishment of a joint steering committee between the international and Iraqi sides, to oversee and monitor the project's implementation and guarantee the sustainability of its operations beyond 2027."
Improving Teaching and Learning and Strengthening Educational Management (ITALEEM), a joint EU-UNESCO-UNICEF education program, aims to provide inclusive, high-quality education for all students in Iraq while also enhancing the Ministry's governance through better planning, management, and policy. It also aims to increase teachers' effectiveness in the classroom and facilitate the involvement of civil society organizations in the educational process.
