The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on Tuesday, the release of 11 Iraqis who were detained in Lebanon.
The Ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Beirut released 11 Iraqi citizens after they were detained by the Lebanese security authorities for traveling through Rafic Hariri Airport in Beirut to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Saudi authorities were unable to allow them to enter, and returned them to Beirut Airport on May 5, 11, 2024.
The statement added that "the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Lebanon communicated with the relevant security and judicial agencies, and was able to release all the detainees, in addition to communicating over the past two days with the families of the detainees and visiting them continuously to determine their needs," noting that "the embassy transferred the detainees after the release of They were released to the hotel and their conditions were followed up.”
It continued, "Our embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is following up on completing other procedures until the file is finally closed and they are returned to Iraq."
