The phases and deadline for finishing the electrical interconnection with four countries were established by Electricity Minister Ziad Ali Fadel on Friday. He also confirmed that 500 megawatts of the Gulf interconnection will be added by the end of this year.
In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Fadel stated that "the Saudi linkage has reached advanced stages, and the advisory contract was signed " He added that "the contracts, most of which are under implementation, the with Jordan has reached its final stages, only opening the accreditation to launch the electric current."
In addition, he stated, "We will launch 500 megawatts when the Gulf connection is completed by the end of this year, with completion rates between the Kuwaiti and Iraqi sides having exceeded 45 percent."
"The ministry is proceeding with all contracts in a consistent and thoughtful manner," Fadel stated, "and the link with the Iranian side, currently the lines are in work and there is a part of them that we do not need at the moment."
