The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the nearly 11-month-old war in Sudan "could create the largest hunger crisis in the world" in a country already experiencing the largest international displacement crisis.

The fighting, which has left thousands dead and displaced eight million people, threatens the lives of millions and threatens peace and stability in the entire region "said Cindy McCain, director of the World Food Programme.
"Twenty years ago, Darfur witnessed the largest hunger crisis in the world and the world(then) united its efforts to confront it, but the Sudanese are forgotten today "she continued.

According to (WFP), less than "5% of Sudanese people can provide themselves with a full meal" at the moment.

Doctors Without Borders - MSF says "a child dies every two hours in the Zamzam refugee camp in Darfur".
"In South Sudan, where 600 thousand people have taken refuge to escape the war, "one in five children in shelters at the border suffers from malnutrition," according to McCain.

18 million Sudanese are suffering from severe food insecurity and five million of them are on the verge of famine, while the humanitarian aid workers who are helping them are experiencing difficulties in navigating and a significant lack of funding.
