Baghdad hosts the opening of AARU General Conference

    The Association of Arab Universities' General Conference got to work in Baghdad today, Monday.  


    In order "to discuss a number of topics on the agenda in preparation for the launch of the work of the General Conference of the Union in conjunction with the sixtieth anniversary of its founding," the Executive Office of the Association of Arab Universities held its inaugural meeting at the University of Baghdad.
     

    "Iraq is one of the founding member states of the Association of Universities, and the presence of the presidents of Arab universities to participate in the activities of the general conference hosted by the capital Baghdad for the first time pushes towards more integration between Arab educational institutions," emphasized Amr Ezzat Salameh, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities.

     
    While revealing thirty applications from Arab universities to join the Union, the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities expressed his happiness at being able to host the Executive Council and the General Conference at the University of Baghdad.

      Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, the president of the University of Baghdad, expressed his gratitude for "helping to create a positive environment for solidarity and academic and scientific cooperation between Iraqi universities and their Arab counterparts by hosting the executive office of the Union and the work of the general conference."

    Declaring that "the University of Baghdad is the destination of students," the president of the university emphasized that "Iraq is continuing to build all government fields, and is working to stimulate scientific research among students and researchers."  

    Noting that "the ministry offers about 250 master's programs and 155 doctoral PHD programs, as well as has 6,000 teaching staff at the University of Baghdad," Insaf called for "cooperation in supporting research and the quality of education in Iraq."
