Secretary-General of the Cabinet, Hamid Naim Al-Ghezi, and Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, discussed on Monday, the preparations for the 36th regional conference for the Near East and North Africa region of Faw, scheduled to be held in the capital, Baghdad, at the beginning of next February.
"Iraq's embrace of such international conferences reflects Iraq's identity and the restoration of its international status, especially since there is a governmental orientation to advance the agricultural reality in light of the international trend regarding climate variables,” said Al-Ghazi during the meeting in a statement by his media office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added, "Holding the conference in Baghdad is important and positive to shed light on the water crisis, in addition to benefiting from it in implementing the international agreements of the riparian countries with Iraq, and emphasizing these agreements regarding Iraq's water share,”
Al-Ghazi stressed, "The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers will be the supportive body for coordinating the conference with the Ministries of Agriculture, Foreign Affairs and other parties, to show a higher value for the conference and achieve a supportive media campaign for Iraq,"
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, valued the “great support of the General Secretariat of the Cabinet in various fields,” stressing that “Iraq, for the first time, hosts such international conferences with the wide participation of more than 30 countries, indicating that the conference will be an opportunity to clarify the location of the agricultural sector and the problem of the water crisis with the riparian countries is with Iraq,”
The statement added that "the attendees discussed the preparatory procedures for the conference, which pertain to the ceremonial procedures, determining the venue of the conference, mechanisms for receiving delegations, invitations and entry features, financing, and the conference's agenda and recommendations as the meeting was attended by agents and advanced staff of the Ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs, as well as a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs as well as, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,”
