MOJ: Reform measures made us partners with human rights organizations

    The Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, confirmed today, Thursday, that thanks to the reform measures in the ministry and the government, we have become true partners of human rights organizations.

    The Department of Media and Government Communications said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Under the patronage of the Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, and under the supervision of the Senior Undersecretary and Director General of the Iraqi Correctional Department, from the site of the lowest jurist Ziyad Al-Tamimi, and under the slogan of (A reform and giving march) the Iraqi Correctional Department held a central ceremony on the occasion of Iraqi Reform Day.”.

    He added, "During his speech at the ceremony, the Minister of Justice stated that while the Ministry of Justice plays its role in enforcing the law against convicts, it plays a larger role, which is the humanitarian role that aims to rebuild the human being and make him an effective and positive element in society," and he added: “Therefore, since we assumed the ministry’s duties, we have committed ourselves to preparing an integrated plan and program to address the challenges and address the problems facing the department.”

    The minister added, “Thanks to the reform measures in the ministry and the government, we have become true partners to human rights organizations, and we have made changes in the leadership joints and at the level of department directors. We have also worked to provide health supplies and study halls, cooperate with humanitarian organizations, and implement our reform and awareness tasks in accordance with what Sharia dictates and human values to us.”.

    Shwani pointed out, “The Prime Minister is constantly following up on field treatments in the prison departments and has devoted, for the first time, a meeting to discuss the challenges they face, as the ministry’s proposals have been adopted and its plans have been successful in solving the problems facing the aforementioned departments,” stressing, “the possibility of achieving this and the percentage of Overcrowding if the Ministry continues to implement projects and reforms on this approach.”

    The Minister concluded by "sending a letter of thanks and appreciation to all members of the Iraqi Correctional Service in appreciation of their efforts in serving the correctional institution. He also presented the Creativity Shield to a group of retirees and a number of the Department's employees and correctional guards. He in turn received the Creativity Shield that was presented to him by Senior Undersecretary Ziad Al-Tamimi."
