National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji renewed, on Saturday, Iraq’s position calling for stopping the Russian-Ukrainian war and taking dialogue as a way to resolve it.
A statement from the media office of the National Security Advisor, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that “the National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji, received in his office the Ukrainian Charge d’Affairs in Baghdad, Alexander Buravzhenkov.”.
The statement added, "Al-Araji discussed with the Ukrainian Charge d'Affairs the overall situation at the international and regional levels, in addition to discussing ways to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian crisis through channels of dialogue and diplomacy.".
Al-Araji pointed out that "the Russian-Ukrainian war has become a war of attrition, and that it is not in anyone's interest for this war to continue," stressing "the necessity of intensifying international efforts and making efforts to put pressure towards stopping this war and for both parties to sit at the dialogue table.".
He stressed that "the region needs peace, security, and mutual respect for the sovereignty of states, and that war achieves no result except destruction," expressing "Iraq's belief in sustainable peace and security." He also renewed Iraq's position calling for stopping the Russian-Ukrainian war, and taking dialogue as a way to resolve it.
Regarding what is happening in the Gaza Strip, Al-Araji pointed out that “innocent civilians are the victims of this war and as a result they lost their homes, their jobs, and their families,” stressing “the importance of stopping this destruction that targets people and the capabilities of countries.”.
For his part, Buravzhenkov stressed that "The Ukrainian people withstood the war, but they seek peace while respecting the sovereignty of their country and its territories."
