The Emir of Kuwait, Mishal Al-Ahmad Jaber Al-Sabah, today, Thursday, issued a decree dissolving the National Assembly.

The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) stated, in a statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Jaber Al-Sabah issued an order to dissolve the National Assembly, which was elected on June 6, 2023.”.

The statement added, "The dissolution of the Council was done in accordance with the Constitution, out of respect for the popular will, in order to preserve the supreme interests of the country, and to preserve its stability.".

The Emiri decree stipulates the return of new parliamentary elections in the country, the date of which has not yet been set.
The Constitutional Court ruled in mid-March invalidating the 2023 elections and the return of the elected parliament in 2020.
