MOMD: The remaining IDPs in camps are only 32k families

The Ministry of Immigration and Displacement revealed today, Saturday, the presence of an estimated 32 thousand families in twenty-four camps.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Immigration and Displacement, Karim Al-Nouri, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “There are only 32,000 families remaining, with a membership of approximately 154,000 individuals, residing in 24 camps, 16 of which are in Dohuk, 6 in Erbil, and 2 in Sulaymaniyah.”.

Al-Nouri added, “Last year, 5 camps were closed and the existing families were returned to their areas of residence,” stressing that work will be done to end their file by June of this year 2024. 

Al-Nouri explained, “The process of emptying the camps and returning the displaced to their areas of residence will be voluntary and not Forced.”.

He pointed out, “The Minister of Immigration and Displacement agreed to begin a field survey (questionnaire) of the displaced inside the camps to develop a solid plan to identify the obstacles and challenges that prevent them from returning to their areas of origin.”.
