The Federal Commission of Integrity declared on Friday that it had apprehended a fugitive accused of embezzlement, forgery, and extortion from the Arab Republic of Egypt.

"The Commission received the accused (Abdel Rahman Al-Samarrai's brother-in-law) from the Egyptian authorities, after he was transferred to Iraq this morning; to prepare for presenting him before the judicial authorities; to determine his fate, considering the criminal cases opened against him and investigated by the commission," the Media and Government Communication Office of the Commission stated in a statement got by the Iraqi News Agency (INA)." The statement also mentioned the continuous follow-up and tireless efforts exerted by the recovery department of the commission; to follow the accused in four countries across three continents until the moment he was caught in Cairo."

"The convicted individual engaged in embezzlement and fraud while employed by the airline company, besides electronic blackmail. He also obtained contracts and privileges through questionable means as a commercial middleman by establishing connections with former ministers, businessmen, and aviation sector officials," the Office stated in the statement.

It is worthy of note that "a memorandum of understanding was concluded between the Federal Commission of Integrity and the Egyptian administrative control, one of the first results of this extradition process," and that "the head of the Federal Commission of Integrity, judge (Haider Haroun), during his visit to Cairo in September last year, handed over to the Egyptian Minister of Justice, counselor (Amr Marwan) a list of names of a number of wanted persons to the Iraqi judiciary who have been proven to be on the territory of the Arab Republic of Egypt."
