The Federal Commission of Integrity, FCOI, announced on Wednesday that it has opened an investigation on allegations of bribes offered to members of the House of Representatives in order to vote for a certain candidate for the presidency of Iraqi House of Representatives.
A statement from the Commission, received by the Iraqi News Agency(INA), stated that "The Commission Investigation Service sent an official note to MPs' offices (Majid Shangali, Ahmad al-Jabouri, Ra 'ad al-Dahlaki, Hussein al-Sa' bari and Ali Turki), in order to be present at the headquarters of the commission’s Investigation Service and to provide further information on the statements made by them to certain media and monitored by the commission’s media office."
"The commission’s media office followed up on some, MP’s statements after the session of the Speaker of the House of Representatives election, as some of them claimed to receive offers from some council employees, while others claimed to be informed of those offers via WhatsApp messages, and some of them confirmed the amounts of the alleged offers for payment," the statement added.
