Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi detail on Tuesday, five priorities for Iraq’s participation in the Davos Forum, while stressing that the Iraqi government seeks to develop the quality of participation in the Davos Forum.
Al-Awadi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the 54th annual meeting of the Davos Economic Forum is being held against Gaza and Ukraine wars, the artificial intelligence revolution, the cost of living crisis, and the issue of climate change, in an event that lasts five days, and that the forum is scheduled to be attended by more than 2,800 people, including more than 60 heads of state and government, in addition to hundreds of heads of major international companies, investors, media leaders, and heads of international and regional organizations,” noting that “it was agreed that the topic of this year’s meeting would be global political and business leaders, celebrities, and prominent social activists it is rebuilding trust."
He added, "Among other issues that will also dominate the agenda are the massive levels of debt that have accumulated on developing economies in recent years to deal with multiple crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic, energy crisis, and climate change ,therefore, the Davos Forum is considered one of the most important global platforms attended by countries leaders, as these forums draw a map of the important global issues of the current year, and leaders in politics, economics, finance, business, media, and others usually review the capabilities of their countries and companies in presenting solutions or formulating the international map to confront the challenges presented in the forum.”
Al-Awadi explained, “The importance of participation and what the forum can offer to the Iraqi public sector and private sector can be summarized in the following point, first, the forum provides a great opportunity to meet with senior officials in the world among themselves on the one hand, and an opportunity to meet the owners of major companies in the world on the other hand with the aim of attracting investments, concluding deals, or establishing lobbies, and secondly, it represents an opportunity to attract investments and conclude deals, and the forum provides a space for the public sector to meet with the private sector, which is a feature that is not available in other international organizations or forums.”
He pointed out that "the forum is also a media platform to prove the state's presence on the international map, and the forum provides a large international media platform to show the presence of countries during international forums, and an important forum such as the Davos Forum, which is attended by political and public figures at a high level, and hundreds of reports are issued annually, Regarding it to shed light on the events, initiatives and activities that it carries out, it may be the appropriate place for Iraq to benefit from participating in it with the aim of demonstrating its importance and its position on the international and regional map, and fourthly, preserving the privacy of some important political meetings, as the forum is considered an important platform for meetings of senior state officials while preserving the confidentiality of the meetings fifthly, one can benefit from the initiatives that are presented in the forum there are many initiatives that are presented annually during the forum that can be invested in and benefited from their outcomes, as there are more than (100) initiatives currently these initiatives vary under several different headings that can be studied and determined it is useful to work on investing in it and applying it in Iraq in coordination with the forum.”
