Suspects held for white-collar crime in Diwaniyah: COI

    The Federal Commission of Integrity  announced on Friday, arresting two accused of embezzlement and bribery in the Department of electricity and the Directorate of education in Diwaniyah.

    A statement by COI received by the Iraqi News Agency INA said that "the team of the judicial investigation and control division in Diwaniyah was able to arrest three employees in the Diwaniyah Electricity Distribution Department for embezzling the money collected from subscribers and not paying them as revenue to the state, indicating that "the embezzled amounts have not been specified, as a result of continuing audit work following the increase in complaints raised by people."

    It added that "the team that moved to the Directorate of education in the governorate arrested an employee in the Directorate after receiving a bribe from one of the citizens; in exchange for appointing her son to the administrative annex of the Diwaniyah education department," noting that "the team searched the home of the accused and seized dozens of fake forms of administrative orders and need requests from different schools related to the appointment of hundreds of names within the annex in exchange for sums of money handed to the accused and another employee in the Directorate.

    "It was revealed that the Diwaniyah Municipality Directorate did not collect a deposit amount amounting to more than (900,000,000) million dinars owed by one of the tenants," pointing out that "legal measures have not been taken by the imports official since the year 2021," the statement added.

    He clarified that "It was monitored that the Al-Hamza Municipality did not send the amounts of pension contributions for the years (2017-2019) amounting to more than (140,000,000) million dinars to the retirement fund, while in the Sunniyah municipality, it was observed that the Maintenance and Moderation Committees carried out maintenance work at exaggerated prices, which caused the waste of an amount exceeding (50,000,000) million dinars.”
