A statement by the Federal Commission of Integrity (COI), received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said on Wednesday, that "the head of (COI), Haider Hanoun, issued a ministerial order to the (High Anti-Corruption Committee) to investigate major and important corruption cases," noting that "the composed Committee headed by Hanoun includes in its membership a group of its investigators selected by the head of the Commission, and the Commission has the right to seek the assistance of investigators and administrators from its own staff."
The statement explained that "the formation of this committee comes from the duty of the (COI) to prevent and end corruption in the easiest and fastest way available legally, and from the importance of completing the investigation into corruption cases stipulated in its law, especially major and important corruption cases, and within the specified time limit," as the composition of the committee comes in accordance with the provisions of Article (3/7th) of the law.
The statement added that the article (3/7th) of (COI) Law stipulates that it works to end and combat corruption through, inter alia: Carrying out any work that contributes to combating or preventing corruption on two conditions: - a- the work is necessary and serves to fight or end corruption, and b- to be effective and appropriate to achieve the objectives of COI."
