The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, confirmed today, Sunday, that the draft law to recover the proceeds of corruption includes pre-emptive and deterrent measures, while noting that Iraq has lost a thousand billion dollars since 2003 due to corruption .
Salih said during his speech on the files of administrative and financial corruption in Iraq, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The draft law on recovering the proceeds of corruption includes pre-emptive and deterrent action," stressing that "the draft law includes subsequent steps to recover the money of corruption."
He added that "the law to recover the proceeds of corruption also includes support for financial and oversight institutions and activating their tools," noting that "corruption disrupted the people's will to progress and build, and caused the demonstrators to leave the country to demand a country free of corruption."
He pointed out that "Iraq has lost a thousand billion dollars since 2003 due to corruption, in addition to the $ 150 billion smuggled out of corruption deals abroad since 2003."
He stressed "the inability to deal with corruption locally," noting that "the draft law on recovering the proceeds of corruption seeks to recover corruption funds through agreements with states and cooperation with international bodies."
