The Preparatory Committee for "Reforming Tax System in Iraq" Conference announced on Wednesday, that the government has prioritized the economic reform file, noting that it is considered one of the general goals in light of the high government expenditures and obligations.
Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the conference, Ali Rizuqi Al-Lami, said at the conference which was attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency INA that "we seek through our conference to promote the economic, financial, social, political and Development Goals, as well as their direct contribution to covering a large part of public expenditures, especially that the Iraqi economy, which has been suffering for decades from an economic rent problem and almost completely dependent on oil revenues, which are characterized by fluctuations due to the forces of supply and demand for crude oil in the world market.
"Since the first day of the work of this government, it has made it one of its platforms to address files that affect the lives of citizens, including the economic reform file, which is considered one of the general goals in light of the high government expenditures and obligations," he added, noting that "within the general reform approach followed by the government, the prime minister directed to prepare a general conference to reform the tax system in Iraq and as a result, the directive was adopted from the prime minister's office.
He stressed that "Dewani order was issued to form a Preparatory Committee to establish this conference under the slogan “Towards a fair tax system,” noting that “the above Committee has started its work with several meetings to complete all the necessary requirements for its success.
"The scientific committee received more than 40 researches, 12 of which were selected to be presented at the sessions of the conference," he said, expressing his hope "to come up with a set of recommendations and solutions that will have a positive impact on the taxpayers, and the overall economic variables that will advance development and achieve economic well-being.
