The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, confirmed to the delegation of the pope's representative, on Tuesday, that the Palestinian people are being subjected to genocide.
A statement of the holy shrine of Husseiniya received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said that " the representative of the pope and his accompanying delegation visited today the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Karbalai at his home in Holy Karbala, where the delegation's visit came to check on the health of Sheikh Karbalai after he had surgery.
The statement added that " Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Karbalai reviewed the oppression of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and what he was subjected to in Holy Karbala and the position of some of the owners of the Christian religion in supporting Imam Hussein (PBUH) in his oppression and revolution”.
Sheikh al-Karbalai called on " all countries of the world to have a position on what the Palestinian people are being subjected to in Gaza" ,pointing out that "we stand with the oppressed anywhere in the world, and we stand with the Palestinian people in their oppression in Gaza and its exposure to genocide”.
Sheikh Al-Karbalai added that “We understand the oppression of the Palestinian people in Gaza and how thousands have been killed, especially that 70 percent of the victims are women and children, according to what has been announced by international organizations”, stressing that "the humanitarian situation requires us to stand with this oppressed Palestinian people in their plight.
Sheikh Al-Karbalai expressed his thanks to the "delegation for taking the trouble to travel", charging them with "delivering his peace to the pope of the Vatican".
