Hanoun announces implementing Major Seizures

    The head of the Federal Commission of Integrity, Haider Hanoun announced on Thursday, the implementation of major seizures, while pointing to the quest to include the private sector in the National Anti-Corruption Strategy

    Hanoun said in a speech during a ceremony held by the European Union mission on the occasion of the World Anti-Corruption Day, and attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "We recall the World Anti-Corruption Day, December 9th , and  takes from the United Nations Convention Against Corruption three aspects (transparency, participation and international cooperation), which is the summary of work to achieve successes”.

    Hanoun added "We have worked from the first moment to implement international obligations through the legislation of laws, including the law on the right to information, which represents transparency, the law on the recovery of proceeds of looted funds, as well as the Second Amendment to the law of integrity commission, illegal earnings and other related laws, in addition to the judicial rulings in force and its quick and bold measures" ,noting that "the government put in its platform the priority of fighting corruption in addition to combating poverty and providing services, and if we cannot fight corruption, other files cannot be implemented”.

    He stressed that "the government sought to support the integrity commission and law enforcement agencies, as the commission found a wide scope to advance its duty, and we have achieved many duties at the level of the commission's departments within its multiple competencies, the first of which is the penal and deterrent aspect in cooperation with the Supreme Judicial Council, which sought to directly support the integrity commission", explaining "We have achieved many achievements at the deterrent and penal level, the commission had major seizures as well as activities through touring teams and media teams and the investigation of various corruption files”.

    Regarding the preventive aspect Hanoun stressed "we have embarked on (Where do you get this from) move, in terms of illegal earnings, money inflation, follow-up financial disclosure of officials in cooperation with judges and the corrupt were sentenced and money was recovered from them", pointing out that "we worked to recover the accused and money, whether inside or outside Iraq and benefited from the successes of the government at the international level, whether through the relations of the Prime Minister or through the Ministry of foreign affairs”.

    He added "We have been able to conclude memorandums of understanding with many countries and have achieved the recovery of many of the accused, and we are seeking to recover our money through understanding with countries to open accounts with informing integrity commission and law enforcement agencies in Iraq, as well as the Money Laundering Office to identify the locations of stolen and looted funds as a result of corruption and organized crime".

    He pointed out that "the Commission has worked on the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which works in all institutions, and we seek to include the private sector in it" ,pointing to "work to encourage integrity and introduce anti-corruption within the curricula in cooperation with the ministries of education and higher education".
     
    He stressed that "we have achieved great achievements through holding conferences with universities and we seek through the Iraqi anti-corruption Academy to be a model for higher study, namely the higher diploma to combat corruption", pointing to "work to involve the private sector within the UN agreement in cooperation and participation of Clans, community and religious events and all sectors of society and continuous cooperation with NGOs and media institutions".
