The Ministry of Environment announced on Friday, implementing the National Strategy to Tackle Environmental Pollution and Reduce Its Consequences.
"Epidemic diseases generally exist throughout the year, but their severity may increase as winter comes to evolve strains of viruses as the atmospheres suitable for them," Director of the Baghdad Environment Directorate, Sadiq Hatem, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA). "There is a correlation between air pollution and respiratory diseases affecting the lungs."
“The most current pollution risks according to the Air Quality Index are carbon oxide, nitrogen, lead and volatile organic compounds,” he said.
"There is currently a national strategy for dealing with pollution, which is the national strategy for addressing environmental pollution and reducing its consequences", he noted. "This strategy aims to develop practical and effective mechanisms to reduce the impact of environmental pollution and its implications for the achievement of sustainable development goals."
He pointed out that "The strategy includes operational sectoral plans that are obligatory for each sector of the state and according to time limits, in order to confront environmental pollution and take the necessary measures to limit its repercussions."
Earlier, On Sunday (8/20/2023), the Ministry of Environment announced the completion of the national strategy to confront environmental pollution for the years 2023-2028.
