Al-Araji stresses the importance of benefiting from all international experiences to develop the reality of Iraqi prisons

    National Security Adviser Qassim Al-Araji stressed on Wednesday, the importance of taking advantage of all the international experience provided by the United Nations to develop the reality of Iraqi prisons.
     
    Media Office Of the National Security Adviser said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “National Security Adviser Qassim Al-Araji chaired a special meeting of the committee to review and develop the classification system inside prisons, provided by the United Nations Office on drugs and organized crime in Iraq”.
     
    The statement added that "the meeting was attended from the Iraqi side by the senior undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Ziad Tamimi, directors of correctional and juvenile prisons, representatives of the Ministry of justice and the Ministry of Interior, and from the UN side, Ali Al-Burair, director of the United Nations Office in Iraq and experts in this field”.
     
    The statement pointed out that "Al-Araji started the meeting by stressing that the killings taking place in Gaza are unacceptable and these attacks must be stopped and the battlefield should not be expanded”, stressing the importance of taking advantage of all the international experience provided by the United Nations to develop the reality of Iraqi prisons.
     
    The statement continued that “the meeting discussed the mechanisms of the Ministry of Justice regarding the preparation of training curricula and manuals and the development of a standard work guide to comply with the international requirements of prison management, in order to meet the challenges that may be exposed to Iraqi prisons".
     
    The statement continued that " the meeting also included the presentation of UN Assistance, which included the implementation of four projects, (reviewing and updating the classification system inside prisons, developing policies and protocols for risk assessments, conducting training for prison staff, identifying technical candidates for classification), So that it can be used taking into account the security privacy of the Ministry of justice, in accordance with national laws and instructions".
     
    The statement concluded that" the meeting discussed the mechanism of training prison management staff and the development of the work of Iraqi staff in the framework of the implementation of these programs", noting that "the meeting recommended the need to hold a meeting between the United Nations experts and specialists of the Ministry of justice to initiate the technical procedures necessary to implement the program”.
